Kung Fu Self Defense
What is Kung Fu Self Defense?
Kung Fu Self-Defense developed from actual combat situations. The Monks of the Shaolin Monastery watched the various animals and their fighting abilities. They applied these strategies for their own protection and others. The five major animals that they used are the Tiger, Snake, Leopard, Crane, and Dragon. Later these moves were taught to soldiers by General Nok Fei in 1600 AD. for hand-to-hand combat.
There are 3 methods for all of martial arts: The Sport method, the the Stylistic, and the Combative Martial Arts or Kung Fu.

The Sport Method
The Sport method teaches you techniques to use in a contest with rules and a ring. There are restrictions on techniques and judges to ensure the rules are followed. You don’t have judges and rules on the street.
The Stylistic Method
The stylistic martial arts styles teach you different punches, blocks, and kicks, but these are not street tactics. In addition, they do sport sparring practice with partners, and the techniques used are not related to those needed for self-defense.

Combative Martial Arts (Kung Fu)
Kicks provide a longer reach and more power than strikes. Kicks are used for striking both high and low parts of the body. Kicks include Side, Round, Hook, and a variety of jumping kicks. Kicks are also used for ground fighting and the third leg. Kicks develop balance and flexibility.

A True Story
“This actually happened. I was fueling the bus when I felt something pressing in my back and a voice saying "hand over your wallet". Before he completed the word "wallet" I was turning and elbowing upwards at the same time. Without training for over six months, I was still able to react in a controlled manner without panic or hesitation."
